Te Arikinui Pullman Auckland Airport Hotel

Energylight's involvement with Te Arikinui Pullman Auckland Airport Hotel began back in 2018, when architects Warren and Mahoney invited us to provide lighting concepts for the interior lobby and the hotel's unique, architecturally complex exterior façade.

Our initial lighting markup used highlighters to communicate The Language of Light design principles, showing the ambient, accent and scenic layers of light. With the blessing of Electrical Consulting Services (ECS), we then moved from concept into detailed AGI32 lighting calculations, producing renders and even a video fly-through so the client could visualise the lighting layers and truly understand the design intent.

Taking a "less is more" approach, delivering light only where it was needed, allowed us to provide a quality solution with high-performance products within the allocated budget.

Then, in early 2020, Covid arrived on New Zealand shores. Only days before the first nationwide lockdown in March, Energylight received an order to supply the lighting for the hotel. It was retracted soon after, and the entire project went on hold with no certainty it would ever go ahead. Thankfully, the decision was made to continue, and in January 2022 we got the go-ahead for the lighting supply.

The Tesis in-grounds around the faceted façade needed precise aiming, so we spent several nights on site with Caldwell & Levesque Electrical getting them right. Inside, we supported the aiming of the wallwashers and accent luminaires, a final stage of the design that could only happen once the soft furnishings were in place.

Te Arikinui Pullman Auckland Airport Hotel opened to the public in December 2023. A stunning result after a very long journey.
