Invercargill Streetscape
Area
The Invercargill Central development is the revitalisation project of the Invercargill CBD. As regional New Zealand suffered from COVID-19, Invercargill Central has become a catalyst for growth, revitalising the region after the challenging impacts of the pandemic. Please note that this case study focuses on the outdoor streetscape element of the project.
Challenges
The Invercargill Central development revitalizes the CBD. This streetscape upgrade, designed by Isthmus Landscape Architects, reimagines Esk and Don Streets into accessible, vibrant public spaces. A key challenge was delivering custom poles and luminaires, ensuring they met aesthetic and technical standards.
Solutions
The solution emphasised safety, vibrancy, and ease of movement. Low-glare luminaires from ewo and Lumenpulse were used to provide high visibility without causing discomfort. RGB colour-changing lights, controlled by Casambi, added a playful and dynamic element to the streetscape.
Outcomes
The lighting scheme enhances the central street’s personality and aesthetic appeal, contributing to the safety and vibrancy of Invercargill’s CBD.
